A new phototherapy solution that enables uninterrupted skin contact

BiliWrap provides effective treatment of hyperbilirubinemia that supports parent-newborn bonding. Medidyne distributes the new product in Denmark, Norway, and Finland.

We are excited to announce the arrival of BiliWrap: a phototherapy system designed for the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. It is a solution that stands out by making it possible to maintain skin contact, breastfeed, and carry out treatment at home.

“BiliWrap makes a big difference in newborn care,” says Tina Harboe Otte, Nordic Business Unit Manager at Medidyne. “It is a gentle solution that lets parents hold their baby and feel involved during treatment – without compromising on clinical outcomes. It is also very easy to use, which makes it a great choice for both hospitals and home therapy.”

BiliWrap offers a unique combination of clinical efficiency and patient comfort. The system uses an LED pad to deliver safe and effective phototherapy directly to the newborn’s skin. The pad is wrapped around the newborn and does not create light pollution. This results in fewer treatment interruptions, as healthcare personnel can handle the newborn without pausing treatment.

No light pollution also means no need to separate the baby and parent: skin-to-skin contact can be maintained and even breastfeeding is possible during treatment. Plus, the treatment can be taken home. This contributes to improved bonding and emotional wellbeing for both baby and parent.

Key features and benefits of the BiliWrap phototherapy system

With BiliWrap, healthcare professionals can offer effective phototherapy with fewer interruptions, while preserving the closeness between newborns and their families. The design is simple, user-friendly, and the system consists of just three components: A reusable LED pad, single-use wrappers, and a controller. The system has an integrated temperature sensor that prevents overheating. The pad is adaptable and can be used for patients in different sizes. It covers the torso and legs – arms are free. This enables the parent and baby to hold hands and makes it easier to handle the baby.

BiliWrap is a great complementary solution in wards where other phototherapy systems are already available: It is cost-effective, it equips the staff for peak periods, and finally, it can be taken home.
